Structural engineering services
Whether you are altering an existing building, designing a deck, reviewing a connection, or responding to a plan-review comment, the right starting point is understanding the structural issue and the intended scope of work.
Design and detail
Structural calculations and details for clearly defined improvements and building modifications.
Existing conditions
Field observations and evaluations to help identify what information is needed before decisions are made.
Construction support
Engineering responses and supporting information for contractors, owners, and design teams.
Scope review
A determination of whether the project fits the services offered and which design professional credentials are required.
Common reasons to contact an engineer
Clients frequently need help with deck framing and connections, removal or modification of load-bearing elements, structural observations, written evaluation letters, and post-installed anchorage. Some projects call for a straightforward detail; others require a more involved evaluation. We discuss the requirements before defining the work.
Questions we often discuss
Can you provide stamped engineering documents?
The need for a signed and sealed document depends on the work and the reviewing authority. We discuss the necessary deliverables and whether the project is within the applicable Utah PE scope before accepting it.
Do you only work on houses?
No. Project fit depends on scope, complexity, and applicable licensing requirements rather than simply whether a building is residential or commercial.
Where do you work?
Purdue Associates is based in the Salt Lake City area and considers projects throughout Utah’s Wasatch Front.
